There’s nothing like Turkish-style barbecue. The succulent meat, the perfectly charred chicken – soft bread, delicious, crisp salads and mouthwatering dips – it makes for a perfect meal. The thing about finding Turkish cuisine when you’re not in Turkey, however, is that it usually involves leaving the house, going to a sit-down restaurant and enduring the outside world. Where that could be an extremely enjoyable experience, sometimes, you just don’t have the time, or, you aren’t in the mood, and that’s totally fine! But does that mean your cravings should suffer?
Turkish Grill is the perfect compromise. Here, all your Turkish food fantasies can be fulfilled, and the best part is, you don’t even have to leave your house! Known best as a pick-up and delivery concept with one dine-in location at Al Bahar Center on Tunis Street, this eatery has been delivering mouthwatering goods to those inclined since 2003.
Offering a range of Turkish staples purely of the grill and meze variety, Turkish Grill offers an array of different flavors to satisfy your need to embrace the taste of Istanbul.
When we had a hankering for the taste of Istanbul to brighten up an otherwise dull workday, we pulled out our hard copy of the latest TG menu from our latest Dining and Entertainment Guide and got to ordering. What we like about TG is that they maintain authenticity to the Turkish culture by keeping their menu very Turkish.
All menu items are listed as their original Turkish names, meaning that when ordering through their call-center service, refrain from saying “La7m sho2af” for meat skewers, but instead, say “Tike” – even though it isn’t chicken. Same goes for “Tavuk Gogus” (grilled chicken breast) and “Sebzeli Kebab” – the no-nonsense approach to the classic ground beef kebab we all know and love.
When you think Turkish Grill, you automatically think kebab – and so, when testing out the TG experience, we definitely went a little wild with their kebab offerings. We list an order for all of these goodies to sample, finding a lot more surprising terms on the way: Sigara Borek (Cheese rolls), Icli Kofte (kibbeh) and Yaprak Sarmasi (stuffed grape leaves), to name a few. But, since we love all those things, they were ordered as well! In fact, because Turkish Grill is so affordable and plentiful in option, we ordered basically the entire menu. What – we were hungry!
And good thing we were, because their portions are quite generous, which isn’t always the case when prices are low! We had between our team an order of Adana Kebab, spicy and hearty, Beyti Kebab, Heybetli Kebab (Chicken) Tavuk Shish (also chicken), our old friend Tavuk Gogus and Tike skewers. Couple that with some of their homemade Lavash sandwich rolls, in the form of Adana and Gogus, and we were in for a huge feast.
Because the restaurant read our minds, they also sent over some of their exciting house-made dips and not to mention their meze additions. In addition to their kibbeh, Cheese rolls and stuffed grape leaves, we had at hand their house tabbouleh and fattouch, fries, potato cubes, and dips meant to be paired with their gorgeous lavash bread like Cacik (yogurt with cucumber), humus, Patlican Yogurtlu (an eggplant-based beetroot, yogurt dip) and Patlican Tahinli (a delicious rendition of babaghanoush). This created a delicious feast for us, which we found to be extremely shareable between 5 diners and an occasional picker. The experience, however, enlightened our buds on a whole new level.
What we really enjoyed about our Turkish Grill feast was the taste that each item delivered, introducing a new perception of Turkish food to our minds. In the region, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to grills, but Turkish grills present a specific taste and craving that produces fine-dining quality in a casual and versatile atmosphere.
Turkish Grill mainly operates as a delivery service, meaning that it’s an operation that’s meant to be eaten in the comfort of your own home. At the same time, it’s the perfect type of cuisine to fancy up when needed, especially for gatherings and dinner parties.

While chowing down, we also discussed how their TG Live service would make for a great social event. Turkish Grill apparently brings their equipment to your venue of choice – even if it’s your own backyard – and grills a set menu for you right there to enjoy! Though we think their delivery holds up really well, we can only imagine, based off its quality service, we can only imagine the sensory exploding experience provided by “fire-to-plate”, as grills are intended to be. The charring on the Gogus in particular, is what we found ourselves salivating over the most.
The live station isn’t your only option to enjoy that hot from the grill taste, however. Because all of Turkish Grill’s top-secret food sources are all so quality (and secret for a reason! They don’t want you tracking down the local kibbeh master who makes all their delicious Icli Koftes to stock up!) their product’s deliverability offers great taste and satisfaction every time.
Couple that with the fact that every single menu item is freshly prepped and grilled to order, each TG experience is made bespoke for their valued customer, whether you choose to order in at home, enjoy their catering or visit their only dine-in location, the food court in Hawally’s Al-Bahar Center. So really, whichever way you enjoy your Turkish Grill, you won’t ever lose.
In fact, our craving has strangely reinstated itself as we write this. Turkish Grill for lunch, anyone?
