What experience most defined your decision and desire to get into the food industry?
As a child I was always surrounded by women who cooked, from my grandmother, mom and aunts, even my dad plays around and has a few great dishes, so it is more of a natural attraction. However as I grew older my passion grew into curiosity, as I am a bit of a perfectionist, it was important for me to know the technical side to good cooking in order to always make a dish the best of its kind.
Where’s your favorite place to shop for food and ingredients in Kuwait?
I used to shop all around, but now Saveco is my haven for all food and ingredients. It is so spacious and clean, and the staff are all very helpful. If I need any special items, I usually order them online through Amazon.
What food most reminds you of your mother’s house, and why?
My mom is a spectacular self-taught magician in the kitchen so I am pretty much obsessed with everything she creates, but when I get homesick I always miss her famous Oven-Roasted Chicken and potatoes, with some savory rice and sweet pumpkin. Another favorite is her Seafood “potjie” with garlic noodles…This is a dish that is cooked in a cast-iron pot on an open fire, it is simply splendid. When you eat anything cooked by a mother’s hands, you can taste the love and happiness!
When you want to go somewhere else to eat, where do you go and why?
I am always open to trying new places, but since I specialize in baked goods in my business, I enjoy Caramel (The Pumpkin Cake kills me every time) and November Bakery’s Heartbreaker…Nirvana!!!!
Who in the world would you most like to cook for?
I would have to say Gordon Ramsay…his methods might be unorthodox and slightly harsh at times, but that is pure passion. He lives for his trade!
If you were to leave Kuwait and could take only one kitchen gadget with you, what would it be?
Oh, that is a tough one. Let’s see…my Fuschia KitchenAid mixer! LOL.
