Leading pan-Arab non-profit organization for cultural development – Nuqat – recently held their Regional Conference 2019, set under the theme ‘State of the Elastic Mind: A New Mindset for Old Barriers’. Nuqat’s ten-day Conference (marking its 10-year anniversary milestone) was one of the largest multifaceted cultural events taking place in the Middle East.
Innovative thinkers, creatives, activists, and policy makers from all over the Arab world gathered at the Amiricani Cultural Centre in Kuwait to engage in a multidisciplinary dialogue that encompassed art, culture, architecture, design, technology, social and environmental issues with the aim of cultivating creative development in the Middle East. With the main event taking place in Kuwait, Nuqat organized other cultural activities of the Regional Conference across seven cities within the Arab world.
The launch in Kuwait kicked off with three days of lectures, talks and discussion panels, followed by seven days of cultural workshops conducted for different age groups. Prominent speakers addressed the emerging issue of the necessity to collectively rewire our thinking and behavior in order to conquer personal, social, and structural obstacles. Renowned cyborg artists Neil Harbisson and Moon Ribas also made a special appearance and presented an extraordinary show.
Nuqat’s Regional Conference workshops were conducted by prominent cultural figures, with names such as Dr. Raffi Tchakerian, George Azar and Tariq Al Olaimy joining in. This year Nuqat took the workshops further to become more multi-disciplinary, bringing participants from different backgrounds to design solutions for problems regarding social inclusivity, environmental sustainability, urban design and authentic storytelling.
