Nothing beats a delightful, freshly prepared meal and with Junkyard, you’re guaranteed just that! As Kuwait London Company’s (KLC) second concept, Junkyard’s menu is simple and appealing as they continue to serve quality street-food at its finest. We at bazaar are very familiar with Junkyard’s mouth-watering offerings, but instead of ordering in as usual, I decided to pay them a visit! Amid all the restaurants in Al-Hamra Tower and Luxury Center’s Café Court, Junkyard is located off to the side with seating near the window. With delectable food and natural light, this location is a solid win in our books.
If you work in the offices at Al-Hamra or are simply heading there to catch a movie at the cinema, Junkyard is definitely a food destination. I approached the counter and grabbed a menu to pick out my lunch before I picked out a seat by the giant windows. Their menu, to my entertainment, looked and felt like a newspaper of sorts. With blown up images of some of their best-sellers I was able to catch a glance of some of the dishes I was ordering from the menu. Just make sure to go with an appetite – you’ll want to order everything and this bazaarite may have over ordered in the best way possible.
From the starter menu I went with their Skins – crispy, deliciously packed potato skins. Twice cooked (baked and deep-fried) the potato skins are stuffed with herbed potato flesh, a layer of mixed cheese and topped with parsley and served with a side of sour cream dip. From the drinks menu, I went with one of their Premium Shakes and I whole-heartedly recommend you do too. My shake-of-choice was the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup – YUM! I sipped on my shake and enjoyed my skins – then the rest of my meal arrived.
I decided on the usual side order of deliciously golden fries topped with various goodies — their Street Fries. Freshly made fries with mixed cheeses, bacon and onion tanglers served with their signature sauce, Junkyard’s Street fries are absolutely delicious – not to mention they complimented my burger brilliantly. From their Street Burger options, I went for Junkyard’s signature: The Junky. Be warned, if you order the standard you will get a double-patty burger, which I totally indulged in – but you can order most of their burgers in a single, double or slider option. Two freshly prepared, quality beef patties, yellow cheddar, shredded lettuce and grilled onions the burger is finished off with their signature “yard” sauce. The sauce was slightly sweet with a tangy finish, complimenting this burger’s experience wonderfully.
Though I ate my weight in delicious savories and enjoyed the shake to the very last drop – I couldn’t help but order dessert. So I made my way to the counter – which I counted as a brisk jog that completely justifies my desire for dessert – and ordered KLC’s signature dessert, Chubby Balls. Creamy and crumbly as ever, the Chubby Balls hit the spot and satiated my sweet tooth in the best way possible. A perfect end to the perfect meal – Junkyard will forever remain one of our go-to places for quality street-food.
