The Promenade Ice Skating Team has had us all in awe with their exemplary performances in skating competitions over the last few years – and of course, this year their participation in Skate Emirates 2023 was no different. The team of 15 skaters brought home 18 medals and stunned audiences in Al Ain – adding to the trophy cabinet that already has a plethora of medal wins and trophies from international competitions!
The team, led by Coach Nurul Ayinie Sulaeman, had stiff competition from other teams from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Romania, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Georgia.
In the run up to the competition, the coaches of the Promenade Ice Skating Team worked closely with the team in preparing them for the grueling challenges ahead, often including endless hours of practice. However, the coaches have even more work to do behind the scenes! They prepare the programs of all the team members, prepare the music, work with them to finalize the outfits and ensure that all the competition rules have been reviewed.
The coaches and team become like family members before a competition, the team lives and breathes ice skating, and the coaches give calm and endless support, and encourage the skaters to work harder toward their goals! They also have to push the team to perform to the best of their ability, often through the nerves that the girls may feel before the competition.
This year at Skate Emirates, the 15 skaters worked closely together to showcase their talents at the competition to teams from around the world! Some newer skaters were supported closely by the veterans on the team, those that have been participating in competitions for a while. This level of teamwork where there is strong guidance from every front is where the high level of coaching shines at Promenade Ice. It is a team that has gelled together and bonded from the guidance of the coaches.
One of the skaters, Rania Baweja, aged 13, told us “I really enjoyed the team work, cooperation and support Promenade Ice team and others have given me.” Another skater, Noor Al Anezi, aged 9, shared “What I love the most is how we became close to each other, helping each one of the team. We are family here at the Promenade Ice Team!”
The coaches at Promenade Ice pride themselves on ensuring that they extract the best out of the team and instill a passion for the sport that is so close to their hearts! Laila Roshdy, aged showcases this exactly as she expresses her love for her team: “I enjoyed Skate Emirates a lot but my favorite thing about being part of the team and competing is spending time with my friends and cheering them on.”
Kenzie El Adly, aged 13, who has been part of the team for a while tells us that she enjoys the competitions because “I get to connect to my team and I love supporting and cheering everyone on when we are there!” We are so excited to hear that the team has such a great sportsman spirit – this is a special gift that the team will be able to cherish as long as they live.
We love what Alzain Hamshari, aged 12, explains: “As a figure skater, this sport changed my life, pushing me to new limits both physically and mentally. At Skate Emirates I won both gold and silver medals, thank you team and the coaches for all that you have done for me, both on and off ice. I am proud to be a part of such an incredible team.”
We’ve always been fans of Promenade Ice, the safety of the rink, the caliber of the coaches, and support of the management in achieving great wins and harnessing talent of the youth. If you’re as impressed by the team and would like to try your hand at skating, then this is the place to be! Promenade Ice will also be running skating camps this summer for all levels.
