The Promenade once again has hosted an event at Soapbox that focuses on shedding light on a serious women’s health issue, breast cancer. Most recently, The Promenade hosted the Wednesday gatherings at Soapbox to give women a platform to discuss current issues that are important to women. Supporting women and giving them a voice has been one of the main reasons that The Promenade created Soapbox, it is a venue for people to be able to stand up and share thoughts.
The breast cancer event was just that, cancer survivors were given a safe space to share their giveaways for all of the attendees.
The breast cancer event was just that, cancer survivors were given a safe space to share their stories and their plights, and inspire others that may be on this difficult journey. The majority of the breast cancer survivors had been supported by First Step Counseling Center. The First Step team is a voluntary team that aims to share knowledge and create awareness of illnesses to create a new generation that enjoys sound health. The team generally cooperates with all official authorities in order to preserve human health.
At the event, The First Step Counseling Center brought doctors to talk about the importance of early screening for breast cancer checks. The cancer survivors that spoke as a part of the team shared their stories, and also shared how important it was to have family support and faith, these are the two things that kept them going as they received treatments and battled the types of cancer they had.
Birth Kuwait, a local non-profit community health network that brings together birth-related professionals and mothers to provide better support for mothers and improve maternity services in the region, shared information about how breastfeeding can help reduce breast cancer risk. The statistics show that women who have breastfed will reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 33%, and the number of years you breastfeed will result in a greater reduction in the risk. Birth Kuwait offers support to mothers who wish to breastfeed in a variety of ways, they offer one on one consultations, as well as courses, and there is also a hotline you can contact for support.
Additionally at the event, Kuwait Agro, one of the largest privately-owned agricultural companies in Kuwait, and the owners of Yasmin Farms which produces chemical-free dairy and eggs, distributed rose milk. This rose flavored drink has been produced for the month of October and was launched at the Soapbox event as part of Kuwait Agro’s corporate social responsibility initiative. All of the profits from the sale of rose milk will go to the Kuwait Society for the Care of Cancer Patients.
It was clear to see that The Promenade had brought together the key people to share information on the early detection of breast cancer. The speakers inspired all of the attendees by sharing their struggles and how they were able to combat cancer. The event marks another success in Soapbox’s calendar, and we are so excited to see what they will bring us next.
